Guest Speaker: Jerry Penry
Jerry Penry is a Nebraska licensed land surveyor who began his surveying career in 1984. A native of Atkinson, Jerry attended Southeast Community College in Milford after high school and has remained in southeast Nebraska. After employment with various private surveying companies in Lincoln for 12 years, Jerry has worked for Lancaster County Engineering since 1997 and currently manages the survey department. He has had over twenty articles published in professional magazines and has authored several books. Jerry currently lives in Milford.

Researching Lancaster County’s Records
This discussion describes the various records available at the Lancaster County Engineer’s Office such as online survey records, deeds and maps, section corners, aerial imagery, and other items related to the surveying profession. A panel of Lancaster County Engineering employees will be available to answer questions concerning the improvement and simplification of research projects. Further discussion will include an overview of the records currently not available online and the steps necessary to meet the goal of making more resources available online in the future. Moderated by Jerry Penry.
Surveying a Township with GPS.
Jerry Penry discusses one method of accurately surveying an entire township. This method involves using both static and real time GPS to obtain precise positions on section corners. It includes a series of checks to ensure the reliability of the collected data. Jerry will also discuss a few of the problems associated with uncertain corners, poor monumentation, and disseminating the data to your client or other agencies.
