Jerry Penry is a Nebraska licensed land surveyor who began his surveying career in 1984.  A native of Atkinson, Jerry attended Southeast Community College in Milford after high school and has remained in southeast Nebraska.  After employment with various private surveying companies in Lincoln for 12 years, Jerry has worked for Lancaster County Engineering since 1997 and currently manages the survey department.  He has had over twenty articles published in professional magazines and has authored several books.  Jerry currently lives in Milford.

Gene Thomsen is a life-long resident of Nebraska who grew up on a farm between Fairmont and Exeter Nebraska.  He attended Kearney State College, and graduated from Southeast Community College with an associates degree in Civil Engineering and Surveying.  Gene worked in private practice before joining the Nebraska Department of Roads Design Division in 1974.  He has been a Registered Land Surveyor in Nebraska since 1983 and became a Deputy State Surveyor in 1988.  His interest is survey history has inspired him to write articles for the Professional Surveyors Association of Nebraska as well as “Nebraska History” published by the Nebraska State Historical Society.

Hydrological Surveying on the Missouri River

Brenda Densmore has worked for the USGS Nebraska Water Science Center since 2001. She has an undergraduate degree in fisheries and wildlife and a graduate degree in Natural Resources with emphasis in Aquatic Ecology, both from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  She has expertise in water-quality and biological monitoring programs, GPS and LiDAR surveying, and hydrographic surveying.  The newest tool being utilized by the NEWSC is a multibeam echosounder.  Brenda and other scientists in Nebraska have been deploying this equipment in Nebraska, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Cambodia to produce detailed hydrographic maps to answer a number of scientific questions.

Mr. Cobb has over 35 years of experience as a land surveyor in both the public and private sectors. Mr. Cobb was registered to practice in Nebraska in 1982. Mr. Cobb came to the Nebraska State Surveyor’s Office in 1987, appointed a Deputy State Surveyor in 1989 and the State Surveyor in 2005.

“Brian Will is a planner in the Development Review Division of the Lancaster County/City of Lincoln Planning Department.  A native of Lincoln, Nebraska, he graduated from UN-L in 1984 with a B.S in Economics, and accepted a commission and entered active duty with the U.S. Army.  He went on to receive a Master of Community and Regional Planning degree in 1990, also from UN-L, and has worked as a planner ever since.  His experience includes ten years in his current position, and prior to that the Albany County/City of Laramie Planning Office in Laramie, Wyoming, the Metropolitan Area Planning Agency (MAPA) in Omaha, and the City of Omaha Planning Department.  During this time he has been involved with many aspects of planning at the local government level, but with emphasis on current planning/development review which has always included land subdivision and platting.”

Jay is Assistant Planning Director and Superintendent of the Building and Development Division of the City of Omaha Planning Department. He started his career with the City of Omaha 15 years ago as building inspector and specialized in inspection of commercial facilities under construction or renovation. In 1999, Jay was promoted to Chief Building Inspector, a position he held until December of 2011 when he was promoted to his current position.
Prior to coming to the city, Jay was a project manager and designer for an Omaha architectural and engineering firm. Because of his background in the design of office and warehouse space in the metal building industry, his original work was centered on those facilities. He quickly branched out to multi-family projects and highly specialized facilities in the travel industry.

Jay maintains the following certifications:

Pat Stack
Technical Field & Sales Specialist

Pat Stack has over thirteen
years of experience with Seiler Instrument Company. Pat has become the go-to person
for his knowledge and expertise in the use of Faro® Scanning, Trimble® Mapping and
Scanning equipment along with Real Works and Autodesk Software.

Pat has attended and successfully completed several Trimble 3D Laser training seminars at Trimble
Navigation headquartered in Westminster Colorado. Additionally, Pat Stack has presented over
the years at several regional Land Survey Conferences such as Missouri Society of Professional
Land Surveyors, Illinois Professional Land Surveyors as well as Professional Surveyors Association
of Nebraska.

Pat specializes in integrating field data into Autodesk products to streamline the processes and
guiding users in the most efficient use of their equipment and software. Prior to joining Seiler,
Pat had over ten years in civil engineering drafting experience utilizing AutoCAD, Softdesk and
Land Desktop. Pat has assisted in numerous onsite 3D Scanning analyses with several local
and regional firms such as Fred Weber, Thouvenot Wade and Moerchen, Woolpert, David Mason
and Associates, and MoDOT.

Chad Voss
Survey/GPS/Robotics/Scanning/Construction - Sales Specialist

Chad Voss is a native of Denison, Iowa and graduated from Northwest Missouri State University
in 1996 with a degree in Geography/Geology. He has been involved in the surveying equipment
and supplies industry since 1999. He opened the Seiler Instrument office in Omaha in 2005.
His interests include golfing, fishing, hunting, camping and snowmobiling.

Chad is a point man for one of the most exciting technologies to emerge in surveying in recent
years; that of Trimble’s Virtual Reference Stations (VRS) for Real Time Kinematic (RTK) GNSS
surveys.

Seiler Instrument Company has been a pioneer in VRS networks in the Midwest, beginning with
the private, cooperative MWRTK network. This experience led them to facilitating and constructing
state wide Real Time Networks for the Missouri Department of Transportation and the Wisconsin
Department of Transportation. They are in the process of merging our MWRTK network in Illinois
with Trimble’s VRS Now network.

Nathan Watermeier is the GIS Coordinator for the State of Nebraska housed in the Office
of the CIO. His role is working with the Nebraska Information Technology Commission’s
GIS Council to advocate, manage and administer strategic plans, standards, and operational
and technical policies as it relates to GIS. He will be coordinating shared service initiatives
and administer an enterprise-wide state government environment and data sharing activities
involving geospatial technologies, geodatabases and web services.

The majority of his career was spent at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio where
he was the Program Director for the Ohio Geospatial Program. He led the organization and
various teams in the development of a geospatial and information systems infrastructure for
supporting research and technology transfer activities. His specialized research and instructional
training focused on GIS, remote sensing, mobile global positioning systems (GPS), and spatial
analysis techniques on various agriculture, water management, and environmental topics. He is
most noted for leading the development of a nation-wide geographic information data management
system for type A influenza virus bio-security surveillance program for the USDA National
Research Institute. Overall, his program accumulated over $10 million dollars in external support
for technology development and education through USDA, National Science Foundation, NASA,
and private funds. He spent time in private industry as a Director of Market Research and Site Selection
for a commercial real estate developer locating and purchasing properties across the U.S. for senior
living housing using geospatial technologies. He also served as the Dean of Communications,
Information Technology, Construction, and Electronics Divisions at Southeast Community College.
There he provided leadership for 13 academic programs with over 50 faculty including the information
technologies, CADD, land survey, and civil engineering programs.
